Sustainability at ALD

Better shows.
Lighter impact.

Practical environmental responsibility across live event production, dry hire and our day-to-day operations.

Our approach

Progress built into the production plan.

Live events create environmental impacts through energy, transport, equipment manufacture, consumables, waste and supply-chain activity. We focus on the decisions we can influence and the improvements that reduce real resource use without compromising safety or show quality.

Practical progress. No greenwashing. We distinguish measured information from estimates and do not present intentions as achieved results.

Working principles

Reduce first. Keep useful things useful.

01

Prevent and reduce

Right-size equipment, power and transport to the production requirement, avoiding unnecessary consumption before it becomes waste.

02

Reuse and repair

Maintain, repair, reuse and redeploy serviceable equipment, packaging and production materials before replacing them.

03

Plan every movement

Consolidate deliveries and collections, select vehicles for the real load and prevent repeat journeys through careful preparation.

04

Dispose responsibly

Segregate batteries, lamps, electrical equipment and other controlled waste, using suitable authorised routes for each stream.

Where we act

Five areas that shape our impact.

01

Energy and event power

We consider efficiency and appropriate system sizing alongside performance, reliability and redundancy.

  • Use appropriately sized distribution and generation for the expected load.
  • Prefer venue mains power where it is suitable, safe and agreed.
  • Power down non-essential systems at suitable times.
  • Use efficient modern equipment where it meets the brief.
02

Transport and logistics

Good production planning prevents avoidable mileage, freight and repeat handling.

  • Combine deliveries and collections where schedules allow.
  • Match vehicle size to the load and use sensible routing plans.
  • Use accurate prep and checking to avoid unnecessary return trips.
  • Encourage shared travel or public transport where practical.
03

Equipment, materials and waste

Our preferred hierarchy is to avoid waste, then reuse, repair or repurpose, followed by recycling.

  • Repair cables, connectors, cases and serviceable equipment when safe and viable.
  • Reuse durable packaging, case dividers and cable-management products.
  • Reduce disposable tape, plastic coverings, cable ties and single-use items.
  • Use appropriate routes for batteries, lamps and electrical waste.
04

Procurement and supply chain

We include sustainability in purchasing decisions alongside safety, quality, service, availability and cost.

  • Consider durability, repairability, packaging and supplier location.
  • Consolidate deliveries and avoid over-ordering consumables.
  • Favour suppliers able to demonstrate responsible environmental practices where relevant.
  • Communicate project-specific expectations to suppliers and freelancers.
05

Events and client collaboration

Sustainability is most effective at the planning stage, when practical changes are easier and less costly.

  • Use existing venue infrastructure where technically suitable.
  • Reduce duplicate equipment and unnecessary standby stock where risk allows.
  • Coordinate supplier timings to limit repeated site access.
  • Provide accurate project information when clients require sustainability reporting.
Measurement and review

Useful evidence over empty claims.

We are building proportionate records around the areas most useful to an event-production business, reviewing trends and setting priorities at least annually.

Our policy

A commitment we review, not a badge we display.

Audio Light Design will comply with applicable environmental and waste requirements, reduce avoidable energy and material use, extend equipment life, use responsible waste routes and consider sustainability across purchasing, logistics and production planning.
